Okpebholo orders redeployment of Government House security personnel

Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered immediate redeployment of security personnel, including the Camp Commandant for locking out journalists and supporters of the All Progressives Congress(APC).
Those redeployed were those on duty at the Government House when the incident occurred.
Journalists and APC supporters were prevented from gaining access into the premises after they had accompanied Governor Okpeholo from the Benin Airport through the streets of Benin City in a victory parade celebrations.
Okpebholo, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, expressed regret over the incident and described the action as unacceptable as well as inconsistent with his leadership style.
He said he remained a people-focused and accessible leader who held the media and his supporters in the highest regard.
Okpebholo noted that the exclusion of invited guests and supporters was not only unauthorized but also in complete contradiction to the spirit of the celebration.
He said he had constituted a small investigative committee to identify all those involved in the incident.
Okpebholo stated his administration would not tolerate acts that sought to ridicule or alienate the very people who stood by him.
“This decision did not originate from me, nor does it reflect my values. I will never knowingly authorize any action that disrespects our supporters or members of the press. As a governor elected by the people, I remain committed to openness, inclusion, and respect for every stakeholder,” the Governor stated.
“The administration reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an atmosphere of unity and transparency, assuring all supporters and stakeholders of their valued place in the journey to rebuild and reposition Edo State.”
