What makes something priceless? A rarest-of-rare jewel. A historical artefact. An item with intricate detailing. A pricey purchase. Maybe. Often, the things we treasure most are ones drenched with significance and sentiment. Call them prized possessions, if you will, that bring us bliss and even conjure up some moment, someone, or somewhere. These palpable manifestations of the intangible could be different items for everyone, from a travel memento to an heirloom for posterity.  invited a group of some of the coolest people we know, from actors to designers, to tell us the story of that possession that evokes emotion and is now permanently etched into their psyche.

Any time you scroll through Kaustav Dey’s Instagram, chances are he is striding powerfully in vertiginous heels through a new city. Vice President of Marketing for Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, fashion model, a beauty connoisseur and a philocalist (lover of all things beautiful) – the multi-hyphenate dons many hats to savour the best that life has to offer. This multifarious propensity also extends to his idiosyncratic style, flitting from a classic Banarasi weave complemented with a leather pastie to a bondage teddy.

“What I wear has always been a treasured means of self-expression for me. About a year ago, I was visiting my parents in New Delhi when my father and I got into an argument about how I dress. His chance comment escalated into a full-blown fight for the first time on this topic. While we left the argument unresolved, later that evening, when we passed a silversmith’s shop, my father walked in to shortlist a pair of silver payals for me. He asked me to pick the ones I liked as his way of telling me he loved me for all of who I was. They remain one of my most beloved objects; I cherish and wear them on a daily basis.”
