Obado Ksh.505M Corruption Case Adjourned for Plea Deal Negotiations
The Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday resumed hearing the Ksh.505 million corruption case involving former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his four children, and several others.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission along with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions asked the court for a one-month adjournment. They explained that they need more time to finish talks about resolving the case through plea bargains.
The court heard that the discussions have made big strides, but the parties require extra time to wrap up the terms of the agreement.
The court approved the request to postpone explaining that the reasons given were unique enough to justify more time. It also noted that if the plea bargain discussions fail, the case will move straight to a full hearing without more waiting.
The case is scheduled to go back to court on July 21 when everyone involved must inform the court about the progress of the negotiations or confirm they are ready to start the trial.
