Nvidia's AI Expansion Plans in Taiwan

At Computex 2025, Nvidia unveiled ambitious artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure projects in Taiwan, demonstrating the region's increasing significance in the global AI landscape. These projects, developed in collaboration with key Taiwanese partners and with government backing, aim to address challenges in the semiconductor industry caused by US tariffs and supply chain disruptions.

Nvidia plans to build Taiwan’s first large-scale AI supercomputer, partnering with Foxconn, TSMC, and the Taiwanese government. This "AI factory," operated by Foxconn's Big Innovation Company, will serve as a national AI infrastructure project supported by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council. The supercomputer will house 10,000 of Nvidia’s Blackwell GPUs, including Blackwell Ultra systems like the GB300 NVL72 rack-scale platform. The goal is to enhance AI computing capabilities for researchers, businesses, and institutions across Taiwan.

In addition to the "AI factory", Nvidia will provide a high-performance AI supercomputer to upgrade the National Centre for High-Performance Computing (NCHC), replacing the current Taiwania 2 system, further boosting Taiwan's AI infrastructure.

Nvidia and Foxconn are also partnering to develop a new AI computing centre, to be built in stages with a planned capacity of 100 megawatts. This facility will act as a hub for AI development across various sectors, including education, healthcare, urban planning, and industrial research. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described this project as an asset for Taiwan’s entire technology ecosystem, stating, "We're going to build an AI factory for Foxconn, for Nvidia, and the whole of Taiwan."

Nvidia is establishing its new overseas headquarters in Taiwan, named ‘Nvidia Constellation,’ located in the Beitou Shilin Science Park near Taipei. This campus will serve as a base for the company’s operations in the region, solidifying its commitment to Taiwan.
