NSMQ 2026 Fever: Kpando SHS Dominates, Holy Child's Triumphant Return & Early Exits Shake Up Competition!

The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) preliminary stage has witnessed exhilarating contests across Ghana, with several schools successfully securing their spots in the highly anticipated One-Eighth Stage.

In one of the intense preliminary battles, Bishop Herman College emerged as a dominant force, securing a decisive victory against Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS and debutants Dabala SHTS. Bishop Herman established an early lead, ultimately finishing with an impressive 47 points, thereby earning their qualification. Despite high expectations for a strong comeback, Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS concluded their journey with 27 points, marking an abrupt end to their return to the national stage. Dabala SHTS, demonstrating a commendable performance for a debutant, scored 37 points.

Another thrilling encounter saw Kpando SHS assert its dominance, brushing aside Abor SHS and Jukwa SHTS to advance to the One-Eighth Stage. The Volta Region school maintained firm control from the very first round, steadily extending its lead throughout the contest. Kpando SHS concluded the competition with a commanding 67 points, significantly ahead of Abor’s 35 and Jukwa’s 18, thus securing their place with a confident preliminary performance.

Holy Child School made a powerful return to the NSMQ National Championship after a two-year absence, surviving a fierce preliminary-stage battle against Anlo SHS and Nkawkaw SHS. Competing at the SMS Auditorium, Holy Child School reminded everyone of their pedigree by finishing with 67 points. The contest was particularly tight, with Anlo SHS putting up a formidable challenge, ending strongly with 52 points and earning both the coveted NSMQ Star Award for a perfect 10/10 in the Problem of the Day and the Clean Sheet Award for a flawless performance in the True or False round. Nkawkaw SHS finished with 35 points. Holy Child School sealed their victory in the final Riddle Round by cracking three riddles, securing the GOIL Riddle Bonanza and solidifying their spot in the One-Eighth Stage.
