NPP Power Play: Boakye Agyarko Gains Momentum in Chairmanship Race

Boakye Agyarko, a long-serving member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Energy Minister, is actively pursuing the position of National Chairman, drawing significant endorsements and support as the party gears up for its internal elections and prepares for the 2028 general elections. His campaign is centered on a clear vision for rebuilding, reuniting, and repositioning the NPP to ensure its return to power.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Former Upper West Regional Minister, has publicly endorsed Mr. Agyarko, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the party into the next general elections. According to Dr. Bin Salih, the NPP requires strong leadership and a capable candidate to enhance its chances of electoral success. He highlighted Mr. Agyarko's experience, leadership qualities, and unwavering commitment to the party's growth, stating, “We need a strong party and a good candidate to win the 2028 elections. Boakye Agyarko stands tall among those contesting and he is the one who is best fit for National Chairman at this stage of the party.”

Further bolstering his campaign, former Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Upper West Region have also thrown their weight behind Mr. Agyarko. During an engagement, these former local government officials lauded his contributions to the party's development in the region. As a mark of their appreciation and confidence, they presented him with a specially crafted traditional smock and performed a symbolic enskinment ceremony, conferring upon him the title of “Leader of Unity, Discipline, and Accountability.” This honor, they explained, reflects the values and leadership qualities they believe he embodies, along with his dedication to strengthening party unity and organizational discipline.

Mr. Agyarko has also continued his nationwide stakeholder engagement tour, recently meeting with the Upper East Regional Council of Elders and Patrons, Regional Executives, Constituency Executives, and other key party stakeholders in the Upper East Region. During these discussions, he articulated his comprehensive vision for the NPP, emphasizing the critical need for unity, discipline, improved welfare for party members, and strategic reforms. He reiterated that the party must focus on strengthening its structures and reconnecting with its grassroots support base, while acknowledging that Ghanaians would assess the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) government based on its performance.

A core tenet of Mr. Agyarko's platform is his commitment to working closely with former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and all party stakeholders. He views the role of the National Chairman as one that supports and complements the Flagbearer in the collective effort to secure victory for the NPP. The Upper East Regional Chairman, Anthony Namoo Esq., speaking on behalf of the regional party leadership, assured Mr. Agyarko of the region’s support, commending his loyalty, dedication, and longstanding service to the party. Mr. Agyarko, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and the commitment shown by the regional leadership, elders, patrons, constituency executives, and grassroots members towards rebuilding the party for electoral success in 2028.
