Published 19 hours ago2 minute read

The National Orientation Agency, on Sunday, announced its sorrow at the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and called on all citizens and institutions to observe the national directive for flags to be flown at half-mast for seven days.

In a statement released on Sunday, the agency expressed its condolences, noting that President Buhari left an “indelible mark on the nation’s political and moral landscape.”

The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, urged compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive, stating that NOA would actively monitor public institutions nationwide to ensure adherence.

Private organisations and citizens were also encouraged to participate in this act of national mourning.

The statement emphasised the significance of this period of loss.

The Deputy Director, C & M, Paul Odenyi, who signed the statement, underscored the importance of the gesture, saying, “This act of collective remembrance is not just ceremonial, it is a national symbol of gratitude, mourning, and respect.”

The agency highlighted President Buhari’s extensive tenure in public service, both as a military and civilian leader, which was consistently marked by “conviction, courage, and a deep commitment to integrity.”

His vision, according to the NOA, was centred on national renewal, anti-corruption efforts, and the establishment of strong institutions.

The NOA further encouraged all Nigerians to honour the late former President not merely through ceremonial gestures but by actively embodying the principles of patriotism, discipline, and service that he consistently championed throughout his life.

As the nation lowers its flags in tribute, the NOA expressed its shared hope for a stronger and more united Nigeria.
