No Ghanaian musician inspires me - Kwesi Dain
Kwesi Dain is a Ghanaian rapper
Fast-rising Ghanaian rapper cum singer and songwriter, Kwesi Dain, has stated that while he admires many musicians in Ghana, he doesn’t look up to any of them for inspiration.
In an interview with GhanaWeb, the young artiste explained that his motivation comes from his life journey rather than from the success stories of others in the industry.
He mentioned some big names he respects but insisted that none of them serve as his source of inspiration.
He explained that while it’s okay to admire the achievements of others, he prefers to stay focused on himself and work towards finding his own identity and sound in the music industry.
“In Ghana, I admire so many people but I don’t look up to anybody. I admire Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, Fameye and a host of others but none of them inspire me because my journey inspires me more. I don’t really focus on people like that though it’s good for you to look up to people but I’m focusing on myself more. I’m trying to find my sound. So, it’s all about me, how to better me,” Kwesi Dain stated.
Kwesi Dain, who is currently promoting his new single “Time and Season” also spoke about the international artistes who influenced his upbringing.
He revealed that he used to listen to Drake and later Post Malone, both of whom have become big names in the global music industry.
“As I started, I was listening to Drake more, Drake was my role model by then and it switched to Post Malone and looking at these people, they didn’t really have money like that when they started but as time went on, they are millionaires.
“Someone like Drake, he is now one of the greatest musicians in the world not because he chose the music but rather, he chose to keep going, so once I keep going. I could become a Drake or Post Malone or any other person who is making it in the music industry,” he added.
