Nissan Supercharges Rogue E-Power Hybrid with More Features and Seat Time!

Nissan is poised to introduce its advanced e-Power hybrid technology to the North American market with the 2027 Rogue E-Power Hybrid, signaling a strategic shift for the automaker. This move aims to rectify Nissan's previous reliance solely on internal combustion engines and pure EVs, a strategy now recognized as a miscalculation. The fourth-generation Rogue compact SUV is scheduled to go into production in 2026, with the e-Power hybrid variant making its stateside debut in early 2027, featuring dual motors for all-wheel drive.

The core of the 2027 Nissan Rogue E-Power lies in its unique third-generation series hybrid system. Unlike conventional hybrids where the gasoline engine can directly power the wheels, the Rogue E-Power's 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-three engine serves a singular purpose: to act as a generator, producing electricity to power the vehicle's electric motors. The wheels are driven exclusively by these electric motors, making it a 100 percent electric drive experience. All-wheel drive capability is ensured by a separate electric motor dedicated to the rear axle.

This sophisticated powertrain delivers a total system output of 225 horsepower. Anticipated EPA fuel economy ratings are an impressive 40 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 38 mpg combined. A significant accomplishment of this system, especially for a three-cylinder engine, is its exceptional refinement; it operates with remarkable quietness and smoothness, a key focus in the development of this third-generation technology.

The 2027 Rogue E-Power Hybrid also incorporates several notable features designed to enhance the driving experience. Among them is "one-pedal driving," a characteristic more commonly associated with full electric vehicles. This feature allows drivers to decelerate and bring the vehicle to a gentle, complete stop simply by lifting off the accelerator, engaging regenerative braking to recharge the battery. Additionally, a new "Smooth Stop" feature aims to assist drivers in achieving seamless stops, although its long-term utility for experienced drivers is noted as potentially limited. The vehicle also boasts an updated version of Nissan’s ProPilot Assist, an adaptive cruise control and lane centering system, which offers improved tracking and hands-free driving capability in slow-moving traffic conditions.

The third-generation e-Power system represents a substantial evolution, engineered for reduced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), alongside significant improvements in fuel efficiency. Engineers report a 15 percent improvement in fuel efficiency at high speeds and a 9 percent overall enhancement compared to the second-generation e-Power system available in other global markets. This efficiency gain is partly attributed to a "five-in-one" integrated system that combines the motor, battery, inverter, generator, and engine into a smaller, lighter package with fewer parts, optimizing thermal management to maintain peak efficiency longer, especially during highway cruising.

Nissan's objective with the e-Power system is to deliver an EV-like driving experience, characterized by instant and steady torque, thereby eliminating the delayed or non-linear acceleration sometimes experienced in other hybrid systems. This focus on a smooth, linear power delivery from an electric drive system aims to differentiate the Rogue E-Power in the competitive hybrid SUV segment.

Regarding market availability and pricing, the entry-level 2027 Rogue Hybrid will be the SV model, priced at $37,065. Higher trims include the SR at $39,065 and the Platinum at $45,065. The initial models to reach dealerships in the fall will be SR models equipped with the Tech package, which includes larger screens, an improved bird's-eye parking camera, ProPilot Assist, and a panoramic sunroof, bringing their price to $43,065. Other trim levels will follow in early 2027. The non-hybrid 2026 Rogue model will carry over to 2027 with its current styling, with a new body style anticipated for the 2028 model year.
