Just as the world began to breathe a sigh of relief after battling the deadly COVID-19 pandemic for over five years, another dangerous virus is making a chilling comeback in the state of Kerala. According to a recent report, a 57-year-old man from Palakkad district in Kerala, who succumbed to Nipah virus-like symptoms, is suspected to be infected with the deadly virus.

The death case has prompted the government to ramp up contact tracing and field-level surveillance in the area.

As per officials, the man was receiving treatment at a private hospital.

"We are yet to receive the test report of the deceased. Once we get it, we will be able to confirm the cause of his death," said Health Minister Veena George.
