ASA, Effiduase Sec/Comm join forces to plant 300 trees
In a bid to help reduce carbon emissions, ASA Savings and Loans, in collaboration with Effiduase Senior High/Commercial School, embarked on a tree planting exercise last Friday, planting 300 seedlings across the school’s premises.
The species planted included mahogany, cedrella, guava, orange, coconut, and mango.
The initiative was led by ASA’s Sustainability Manager, Richard Nartey, who outlined the motivation behind selecting schools as beneficiaries of the programme.
“Through our tree planting initiative, we hope to contribute towards policy reforms, support vulnerable communities affected by climate change, and mentor the next generation of climate advocates.
“This partnership will not only support the environmental goal of ASA, but essentially help amplify our efforts towards protecting the continent’s environment.” Mr. Nartey added that it is about time to turn climate awareness into impactful action. “We all have to take responsibility, take action, and make a real impact on the environment,” he noted.
He further encouraged students to see the exercise as a symbol of hope and an investment in the future, highlighting the long-term benefits of tree planting. He also engaged the students in an interactive session, quizzing them on the importance of trees—questions they answered correctly, earning applause from all present.
The Area Manager and Branch Manager of ASA, Alex Opoku Ayitey and Issah Musah respectively, urged the school’s management to prioritise the nurturing of the seedlings to ensure they grow and fulfil their purpose.
“We will visit periodically to see to the growth of the trees,” Mr. Ayitey said.
Mr. Samuel Klabi-Mintah, Head of the Science Department at the school, expressed gratitude to ASA for choosing their institution out of many in the Ashanti Region. He assured that the school would commit the necessary time and effort to ensure the survival of all the trees.
