Nigerian Agency NAFDAC Seizes Large Quantities Of Fake, Expired Drugs, Foods, Others In Anambra | Sahara Reporters

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced the seizure of large quantities of adulterated, substandard, and expired drugs At Ogbo-Ogu Market in Onitsha, Anambra State.
In a statement shared on its X page Tuesday, the agency said it had launched a massive enforcement operation across all South-East states.
The operation targeted markets and dealers engaged in the sale of counterfeit drugs.

The statement mentioned that at Ogbo-Ogu Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, NAFDAC officials, led by Dr. Martins Iluyomade, confiscated a large haul of fake and expired drugs, including antibiotics, anti-diabetics, and anti-hypertensives.
Other seized products included psychoactive substances, antimalarials, aphrodisiacs, unregistered vaccines, and banned drugs such as tramadol and codeine. Unwholesome food, cosmetics, and chemicals were also impounded during the operation.
According to NAFDAC, the seized products pose serious health risks to consumers, including death or permanent disability.
The statement reads: “NAFDAC has launched a major enforcement operation simultaneously across all South-East states.
“An operation at Ogbo-Ogu Market, Bridge Head, Onitsha, in Anambra State, led by Dr. Martins Iluyomade, seized large quantities of adulterated, substandard and expired drugs.
“The exercise, conducted in collaboration with the market task force, targeted dealers engaged in repackaging and rebagging counterfeit drugs to deceive unsuspecting consumers.
“Products seized included antibiotics, anti-diabetics, anti-hypertensives, psychoactive substances, antimalarials, aphrodisiacs, unregistered vaccines and banned drugs such as tramadol (above 100 mg) and codeine.
“Unwholesome food, cosmetics, and chemicals were also confiscated.
“NAFDAC emphasises that these counterfeit products pose serious health risks, including death or permanent disability.
“The monetary value of the confiscated products will be determined upon the conclusion of the ongoing operation,” the statement added.
