Nigeria vs Jordan: Super Eagles Pre-Match Buzz, Injury Scare & Viewing Guide
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Jordan in the final of a four-nation football tournament, with the winner taking home the trophy. Both teams have one win each from their past meetings, making this a very even and exciting clash.
Their first match was in 2004 in Lagos, where Nigeria won 2-0. In 2013, Jordan got revenge with a 1-0 win in Amman. That was Nigeria’s only loss to a Middle Eastern team at the senior level.
With history tied, fans are in for a thrilling final.
Nigeria and Jordan face off in a high-stakes final. In past meetings, Nigeria used mostly home-based players, but this time the Super Eagles are expected to play almost their full-strength squad, giving them an edge.
Nigeria is also much higher in the world rankings (26th) than Jordan (64th), and they are slight favorites to win, with a 45% chance.
Historically, Nigeria rarely loses to Asian teams, making past losses to Jordan and Oman unusual.
Nigeria reached the final after beating Iran 2-1, and a win would give them the tournament trophy.
For Jordan, this match is a key test as they prepare for their first FIFA World Cup in 2026, where they face tough teams like Algeria, Austria, and Argentina.
Nigeria’s coach, Eric Chelle, faces a big problem ahead of a crucial match, and the first-choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is out with a thigh injury, and Stanley Nwabali isn’t available.
That leaves veteran Francis Uzoho as the main option, with Adebayo Adeleye as backup, and Uzoho has been in good form for Omonia Nicosia, keeping clean sheets and earning man-of-the-match honors, making him likely to start.
Uzoho’s career with the Super Eagles has had highs and lows. He debuted in 2017, starred against Argentina, and was Nigeria’s first-choice keeper at the 2018 World Cup at just 19.
A serious knee injury in 2019 and a mistake against Ghana in 2022 caused setbacks, but he has stayed with the team, earning 36 caps.
Now, with Okoye out, Uzoho has a chance to prove he can lead Nigeria from the back.
Nigeria and Jordan will face each other for the third time on March 31, 2026, at Mardan Antalyaspor in Antalya, Türkiye, with kick-off around 6:30 PM Nigerian time.
Nigeria’s coach, Eric Chelle, will use the match to try new tactics and give young players a chance. Jordan sees it as a key test while preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
