Tope Osoba's Tragic End: Family Reveals All, Church Launches Shocking Investigation

The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) has launched an investigation into the complex circumstances surrounding the death of Nollywood actress and producer Temitope Osoba, who passed away at the age of 40 on August 4, 2025. The church's involvement stems from serious allegations linking her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, a Shepherd within the CCC, to the controversy. Describing the situation as "an extremely disgusting mess" and "murky," the CCC expressed its profound sadness over the loss of a promising life and its acute embarrassment over its name being drawn into the public discussion amid conflicting accounts of Osoba's final days.

Initial public reports, following the announcement of her death on August 5, 2025, attributed Osoba's demise to a prolonged battle with breast cancer. The actress had undergone surgery for breast cancer in 2024, publicly sought financial assistance for her treatment, and had even announced her recovery, including in her final Instagram post on the day of her death. However, her family subsequently issued a statement, signed by Damilola Osoba, which challenged these initial accounts. The Osoba family cited emotional distress, unmanaged worries, depression, self-medication, and difficulties in her personal and marital life as key factors contributing to her deteriorating condition.

According to the family's detailed account, Osoba, a "responsible daughter of the Osoba family of Abeokuta, Ogun State," had become emotionally vulnerable after the death of her biological mother and subsequent personal experiences. In May 2025, she reconnected with her paternal aunt, Revd Mother Kehinde Osoba Eritosin, severing ties with her maternal family and seeking parental attention. Revd Mother Osoba adopted Tope after family consultation, providing guidance and care. Tope frequently confided in her aunt about her life and marital troubles, particularly concerning her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, with whom she had lived for about two years.

Concerns about Tope's well-being escalated in the days leading up to her death. On July 31, 2025, Osoba made a "frantic call" to Revd Mother Osoba, pleading for intervention in her worsening health and relationship. She contacted her aunt again on August 2, 2025, while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, asking her to speak with her fiancé and providing his contact number. Revd Mother Osoba immediately reached out to Onadeko for an urgent meeting, but he reportedly postponed it until after Tope's death.

The day of her death, August 4, 2025, unfolded with a series of alarming events. Tope's female friend and hairdresser reported to Revd Mother Osoba that Tope had not slept, was behaving strangely, and was making disturbing statements about death. Revd Mother Osoba instructed that Tope be brought to her church in Ikorodu for medical and spiritual care. However, while her aunt was attending a church program in Abule Egba, Osoba was taken to Igbogbo Police Station in Ikorodu after allegedly causing a disturbance in traffic by screaming and acting strangely. She was subsequently released to her friend and two maternal sisters who had arrived from Sagamu.

Instead of waiting for Revd Mother Osoba, Tope's handlers took her to another spiritual center, a celestial church in Ikorodu, where prayers were offered. Later, her maternal cousins decided to transport her to their residence in Sagamu. During the journey, after drinking cold water, Osoba's condition severely deteriorated, leading to "strange body reactions" and a health relapse. She was rushed to a private hospital in Sagamu, then referred to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OSUTH). Tragically, according to those with her, Temitope Osoba passed away in the vehicle before receiving medical attention at OSUTH.

The Celestial Church of Christ, in its official statement, confirmed its deep distress over the situation. While sharing the family's grief, the church expressed particular concern and embarrassment regarding Prophet Itunu Onadeko's alleged involvement. The CCC unequivocally rejected any association with spiritual practices inconsistent with its doctrines, stating, "There is absolutely no room for idolatry, black magic, cultism, and the use of charms in our church." The church affirmed its identity as a "Christian Bible-believing religious church" governed by spiritual tenets and a code of conduct. It announced a "discreet" investigation into the circumstances of Osoba's death, though details about its scope, participants, or timeline for public findings were not disclosed.

Temitope Osoba, a graduate of Business Education from Olabisi Onabanjo University, began her acting career in 2005. She rose to prominence in 2009 after starring in Dayo Amusa’s "Ogun Mi" and also featured in films like "Ifedolapo," "Accident," and "Gucci Girls." Beyond acting, she was also a dancer, appearing in music videos for artists such as Pasuma, Olu Maintain, and Adewale Ayuba. The conflicting accounts and unresolved questions surrounding her death have led to public calls for an independent investigation, as her family appeals for privacy to mourn their daughter.
