Nigeria's Super Falcons Claim Historic 10th WAFCON Title: Celebrations Erupt!

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have etched their names further into history by clinching a record-extending 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. Their triumph came after a sensational 3-2 comeback victory against the host nation, Morocco, in a thrilling final held at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

The final match was a dramatic affair. Morocco started strong, with Ghiziane Chebbak scoring in the 13th minute, followed by Sanaa Mssoudy in the 24th minute, giving the home side a formidable 2-0 lead going into halftime. However, the Nigerian team, under the guidance of head coach Justin Madugu, orchestrated a remarkable second-half resurgence. Madugu's strategic substitutions, bringing on players like Rinsola Babajide and Jennifer Echegini, injected crucial speed into the attack.

The comeback began in the 64th minute when Esther Okoronkwo confidently converted a penalty to pull one goal back for Nigeria. Okoronkwo proved to be instrumental, providing the equalizer in the 71st minute with an assist for Folashade Ijamilusi. The climax of the match saw Okoronkwo once again making a decisive play, assisting Jennifer Echegini in the 88th minute for the late winner, sealing Nigeria's historic 10th WAFCON title. Legendary striker Asisat Oshoala was also introduced to help close out the game, having been an integral part of the team's journey.

The historic victory sparked widespread celebrations, with prominent Nigerian figures quickly offering their congratulations. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed his pride in a social media post, stating, "Congratulations to our incredible Super Falcons on their well-deserved WAFCON victory. This win is a reminder of what can happen when talent, discipline, and belief come together." He further praised the players, coaches, and staff for their dedication, emphasizing that they had shown the world the "strength and spirit of Nigerian football" through a "flawless 10 out of 10 performance."

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, also extended heartfelt congratulations, lauding the team's resilience and calling them "ambassadors of Nigerian excellence." In her message, she highlighted that the "resounding 3-2 victory is indeed remarkable and commendable," serving as "a testament to your hard work, consistency, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit." Senator Tinubu thanked the Super Falcons on behalf of Nigerian women and the entire nation, affirming that they had "lifted the pride of our dear nation, Nigeria and cemented your place as Queens of African football," inspiring millions across the continent.

Adding a personal touch to the celebration, veteran striker Asisat Oshoala took to Instagram to credit teammates Oluwatosin Demehin and Deborah Abiodun, acknowledging their vital contributions to her WAFCON journey. She posted, "Love them scatter. Can’t tell my Mission X story without these two," alongside a picture of the duo, underscoring their profound influence on the team's success.
