Nick Offerman Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Secrets of 'Margo's Got Money Troubles' Haunting Scene

Actors Nick Offerman and Thaddea Graham recently participated in an interview to discuss significant aspects of Episode 7 of the Apple TV+ comedy-drama series, “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.” The discussion delved into the logistical complexities of filming an intense overdose scene, favorite character costumes, and potential storylines for a prospective Season 2, including Jinx’s intricate love triangle.
Nick Offerman, renowned for iconic roles such as Ron Swanson in “Parks and Rec” and his Emmy-winning performance in “The Last of Us,” portrays Jinx, the flawed yet deeply lovable former pro-wrestler father of young mother Margo (Elle Fanning). This role has allowed Offerman to showcase a unique range and nuance in his diverse career. Thaddea Graham, an emerging star who has appeared in “Sex Education” and “Doctor Who,” plays Susie, Margo’s supportive friend and roommate, adding a blend of whimsy and groundedness to their unexpected found family dynamic.
A significant portion of the interview focused on the challenging overdose scene in Episode 7, where Margo and Susie discover Jinx in the bathtub. Graham highlighted the immense preparation from various departments, emphasizing that details like making the classic porcelain-finished bathtub out of rubber were crucial for actor safety and comfort. Offerman confirmed the team’s thoughtfulness, extending even to the tiling. Graham further elaborated on the intricate camera rigs, including a specially built external tub for underwater shots, and the meticulous coordination required from costume, hair, and makeup to ensure limited resets despite the bathroom being flooded each take. Both actors expressed a sense of accomplishment after filming such a demanding scene.
Offerman also provided insight into Jinx’s character during the tense home inspection scene, where Margo confronts him. He noted Jinx’s strength in being able to absorb difficult truths, despite not liking to hear them. This self-awareness, Offerman explained, contributes to Jinx's tendency to make mistakes, as he is acutely aware of his own flaws.
Graham discussed her favorite costume in the show: Susie's Shadowheart (or “Shadowhat”) cosplay. She praised costume designer Mirren Gordon-Crozier for creating a look that was both cool and authentically
