Chris Hemsworth is confirmed to return as the protagonist, Tyler Rake, continuing his duty in the adrenaline-fueled series. Director Sam Hargrave is also set to return to helm the project, ensuring continuity in the franchise's distinctive action sequences.

Key supporting cast members are also making their comeback, with Golshifteh Farahani reprising her role as Tyler's trusted ally and handler, Nik Khan. Idris Elba will return as Alcott, the mysterious figure who assigned Tyler his mission in "Extraction 2" and is poised to offer another challenging task that could secure their release from prison. The involvement of these core players solidifies the future of the "Extraction" universe.

Production for "Extraction 3" is slated to commence this summer. This swift turnaround comes as a result of aligning Hemsworth's busy schedule. The "Thor" star found an open window during the summer months, following his promotional duties for the crime thriller "Crime 101" and prior to his involvement in the crime drama "Kockroach," which begins production this month. Hemsworth, upon seeing the script, expressed a strong desire to return for the sequel.

The screenplay for "Extraction 3" will be penned by David Weil, known for his work on Prime Video's "Hunters" and Apple TV's "Invasion." Weil takes over writing duties from Joe Russo, who co-wrote the previous installment. However, both Joe and Anthony Russo remain actively involved as producers through their AGBO banner, having been instrumental in launching the franchise, which is based on the graphic novel "Ciudad" co-written by Joe Russo and Ande Parks. The extensive producing team also includes Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa under AGBO, while Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson produce through Wild State, and Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin serve as individual producers.

While specific plot details for "Extraction 3" are being kept under wraps, the ending of "Extraction 2" teased a formidable new employer for Alcott, a "gnarly motherf---er" interested in Rake's unique skill set.
