NDLEA seizes drugs, firearms in multiple raids across Nigeria
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recently intercepted several suspects and seized various illegal substances and weapons during patrols in different parts of Nigeria.
In a statement on Sunday in Abuja, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, reported the arrest of 29-year-old Ismail Isah along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on Friday, May 16. Isah was found carrying an AK-47 rifle and two magazines concealed inside a sack of maize. He is to be transferred to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
In Taraba State, Babafemi disclosed that 5,350 pills of tramadol and diazepam were recovered from a 22-year-old suspect, Shafiu Ismail. Ismail was apprehended on Thursday, May 15, at Sabon-layin, Jalingo Local Government Area. On the same day, Tijjani Mohammed, 35, was arrested with 198 kilograms of skunk in Malamawa, Jigawa.
Further south, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Mokwa-Jebba Road in Niger State intercepted a Toyota Carina vehicle with registration number AGL 945 BK on Thursday, May 15. The vehicle was carrying 316 blocks of skunk weighing 143 kilograms, and the suspect, 35-year-old Idris Kamal, was detained.
Babafemi also noted that Emmanuel Hassan, 26, was arrested the same day at Chachi junction along Kaduna Road with 14.3 kilograms of loud. Follow-up operations led to the arrest of the actual owner of the consignment, 39-year-old Bello Aliyu, also known as Liti.
In Nasarawa State, a 60-year-old suspect named Welman Kengbo was detained with 594.8 kilograms of skunk at Karu area on Friday, May 16. Meanwhile, 67.5 kilograms of the same substance were seized from Oyenuga Toheeb, who was arrested on Thursday, May 15, along the Lekki/Epe Expressway in Lagos State.
In addition to enforcement operations, NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy programs last week across various states. These activities included sensitisation lectures delivered to students and staff at schools such as Supreme International School in Fagge, Kano; Al-Arifeen International Academy in Kaduna; Nadado Primary School in Bakori, Katsina; Ila Orangun Grammar School in Osun; and Government Secondary School in Onne, Rivers State.
