The exercise comes after previous ones were vandalised and some stolen by individuals who took advantage of Gen Z demonstrations that rocked various parts of the country.
In a statement, environment chief officer Geoffrey Mosiria said the replacement of the dustbins shows the commitment of Sakaja's administration to restore order and dignity in the city.
Mosiria urged Kenyans to report anyone found misusing or vandalising the newly installed bins for action to be taken against them.
"These bins are not just installations; they represent our commitment to restore cleanliness, dignity, and order in our city. I appeal to all Nairobi residents: let us take up responsibility. If you see anyone vandalising, misusing, or ignoring these bins, speak up and take action. A clean city is not built by government alone; it is built by all of us," Mosiria said on Monday, July 14.
The environment chief officer disclosed that his department has intensified enforcement mechanisms to expose anyone violating waste management laws.
"To complement this initiative, we have intensified enforcement against individuals found dumping waste, littering, or spitting in public without using a handkerchief or tissue. Anyone caught violating these basic standards of hygiene and public cleanliness will face legal consequences," he added.
Mosiria revealed that the county has decided on eight measures, which he said are necessary despite being unpopular, to keep the capital clean.

According to Mosiria, the eight steps might not appease everyone, but they are meant to reclaiming Nairobi's lost glory as the Green City Under the Sun.
"These steps may not win applause from everyone, but they are necessary. We cannot clean our city while tolerating behaviors that dirty it. Let us stand together in this mission. The dream of reclaiming Nairobi’s lost glory as the Green City Under the Sun is within reach but only if we all play our part," he stated.
In related development, a middle-aged man was found stealing dustbins within the Central Business District.
During their routine inspection, county inspectorate officers caught the man red-handed, carrying a stolen dustbin on Monday, June 2.
In a statement, Mosiria said the man, who had managed to break the newly installed dustbin, had intended to sell the dustbin as scrap metal.
