N5.8 Billion Cannabis Seized! NDLEA Raids Lagos, Arrests Three in Massive Drug Bust

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted extensive operations across multiple Nigerian states, leading to significant drug seizures and the arrest of several individuals, including three persons with disabilities (PWDs). These operations underscore the agency's commitment to curbing drug trafficking nationwide, with Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) commending the efforts and urging sustained momentum.

In Anambra State, NDLEA operatives made two notable arrests. On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Romanus Nwabara, a 60-year-old PWD, was apprehended in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, with 250 grammes of skunk packaged in retail sachets. The following day, Thursday, May 7, in the Ogbunike area of the state, another PWD, Amos Kenneth, aged 25, was arrested. Kenneth was found in possession of a significant stash of illicit substances, including 160.3 grammes of Tramadol 225mg and 100mg, 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grammes of Exol 5, and 176.93 grammes of skunk.

Further interdiction efforts extended to Kwara State, where operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle. During a thorough search, 6.3 kilogrammes of skunk were discovered expertly concealed within a brown school bag belonging to a PWD identified as Usman Salisu, who was subsequently arrested.

A major breakthrough occurred on Friday, May 8, when the agency's Special Operations Unit raided a mansion located at 36 African Lane, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. This residence was allegedly being used as a stash house for illicit drugs. The operation yielded a massive haul of 4,000 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of imported cannabis, weighing a staggering 2,326 kilogrammes. The street value of these seized drugs is estimated to be over N5.8 billion. In addition to the narcotics, operatives recovered two Mercedes-Benz buses and various designer sachets, believed to be used for packaging the substance for retail distribution.

Other significant arrests and seizures include Emmanuel Osita Okeke, 38, who was apprehended with 129 kilogrammes of skunk in Nyanya Karu, Nasarawa State, on Monday, May 4. Along the Okene/Lokoja highway in Kogi State, NDLEA operatives on Friday, May 8, intercepted a white commuter J5 bus en route to Abuja. A search of the vehicle uncovered 76 jumbo bags of skunk, collectively weighing 766 kilogrammes, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa.

In Lagos, NDLEA officers on Wednesday, May 6, dismantled a makeshift 'skuchies' production factory in the Ijora Badia area. Two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were arrested at the scene while allegedly preparing cannabis mixed with other illicit substances. The raid resulted in the recovery of 270 litres of skuchies and 106 grammes of Tramadol 225mg.

Beyond enforcement, the agency reiterated its commitment to preventive measures. NDLEA commands and formations across the country have maintained their sensitisation campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative. These campaigns target schools, worship centers, workplaces, and local communities, aiming to educate the public and reduce drug demand.

Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) extended his commendation to the officers of the Special Operations Unit and the commands in Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Lagos states for their exemplary performance in these arrests and seizures. He emphasized the importance of sustaining the current momentum in both drug supply reduction and public sensitisation activities nationwide.
