Musings: Parking strife at MacArthur

Published 2 months ago2 minute read

Upon entering Long Island MacArthur Airport on a holiday-season Friday, at 4 a.m., I drove to the long-term parking lot. It was closed off with cones in front of it.

So, my wife and I drove around the airport a couple of times to look for overflow parking. We found none. We finally stopped and talked to the parking lot cashier. He said we could park in the short-term parking lot and “we’ll adjust the bill when you leave.”

When exiting the airport lot on our return, that cashier told us that the prior cashier had no business telling us that. This cashier then proceeded to charge us the short-term $27 daily rate instead of the long-term daily rate of $19. He explained he’s “only the cashier” and doesn’t make policy. So, for eight days, I was out $64.

With JetBlue and Breeze Airways expanding service, more parking is needed for holiday weeks. I think I’m entitled to a refund.

Maybe taking an Uber from the Ronkonkoma train station is a better parking option.
