Music Icon Billie Eilish Set for Explosive Movie Acting Debut in 'The Bell Jar'!

Grammy and Oscar-winning artist Billie Eilish is set to make her significant film acting debut in Academy Award winner Sarah Polley's highly anticipated adaptation of Sylvia Plath's seminal novel, "The Bell Jar." Polley, who recently earned an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2023 for "Women Talking," will both adapt the screenplay and direct the film, marking her first directorial project since her acclaimed win.

Eilish, already a two-time Oscar recipient for her original songs co-written with her brother Finneas for "Barbie" and "No Time to Die," is now expanding her artistic repertoire into feature film acting. This move follows her impactful acting debut in the Prime Video series "Swarm," where her standout performance garnered a People’s Choice Award for TV performance of the year and an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series. Beyond acting, the 10-time Grammy winner is also building her filmography by co-directing the upcoming concert tour documentary "Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour" alongside acclaimed director James Cameron.

"The Bell Jar," Sylvia Plath's only novel, is a semi-autobiographical work published under a pseudonym in 1963, shortly before the author's suicide. The literary classic vividly chronicles a young woman's descent into mental illness against the backdrop of the restrictive societal expectations placed upon women in the 1950s.

The film adaptation of Polley’s "The Bell Jar" has found a home at Focus Features. The project is being produced by Joy Gorman Wettels, known for her work on "Little House on the Prairie" and "13 Reasons Why," in collaboration with Plan B Entertainment and StudioCanal. Gorman Wettels, through her company Joy Coalition, was instrumental in originating the project, bringing together Eilish and Polley, and then partnering with Plan B and StudioCanal before Focus Features joined the endeavor. The news of this project was initially reported by Deadline and The Insneider.

Billie Eilish is represented by WME, Sandbox Entertainment, and High Rise PR. Sarah Polley is represented by WME, GGA, and Circle Management. Joy Gorman Wettels is represented by Nina Shaw at Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang.
