MSUB men's hoops celebrates senior day by reaching 20 wins
BILLINGS — Senior 6-foot-5 guard Brendon Johnson recorded his second double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds and the Montana State Billings men's basketball team reached 20 wins for the third-straight season with a 73-67 senior day win over Seattle Pacific on Saturday at Alterowitz Gymnasium.
With the Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory in its last game of the regular season, MSUB improved to 20-11 overall and 11-7 in league. The Falcons fell to 15-14, 11-7. It is the third-straight 20-win season for MSUB. According to a school press release, that is an achievement never before seen in the GNAC era and the first since 1984-87, when the Yellowjackets captured an NCAA West Region championship.
Johnson, of Livingston, added four assists to his statistics. Jalen Tot, a senior from Dallas who came to MSUB from Dawson Community College, added 17 points and three steals. Kael Robinson, a 6-7 senior forward who previously played at Rocky Mountain College, added 15 points, three assists and six rebounds.
“(I) really liked our energy and pace to start the game. Our guys played together and shared the ball at a high level today. Our activity on defense made it difficult for them to score in the first half which led to our advantage," said MSUB coach Luke Fennelly in a school press release. "We knew they’d make a run in the second half, but we just had to stick to our game plan. (I'm) proud of how the guys stuck together, got key stops, and executed to finish the game the right way. (I) couldn’t be more thankful for a great group of seniors."
The Yellowjackets locked up the No. 5 seed for the GNAC Tournament, which is March 6-8 in Lacey, Washington.
