GLENDIVE — No. 22 Dawson Community College built a 20-point halftime lead en route to a 132-106 victory over rival Miles Community College in the Region XIII men's basketball semifinals on Wednesday at the Toepke Center.
Seth Amunrud, a 6-foot-4 sophomore guard who attended Manhattan Christian, led all players with 32 points for Dawson. Amunrud also tallied eight rebounds and six assists.
Jordan Jasper, a 6-foot sophomore guard for DCC, contributed 20 points, nine steals and eight assists in the win. Justin Asi, a 6-5 sophomore forward, scored 16 points and had five rebounds for the winners, while 5-10 sophomore guard Sam Massaquoi had 10 points, six assists and three steals. Sophomore 6-9 forward Kur Maler (14) and 6-7 freshman forward Anson Johnson (10) also scored in double digits for the Bucs.
With the win, Dawson — the No. 1 seed for the tourney — improved to 28-3 overall and 15-0 at home. The Pioneers, the No. 5 seed for the regional, finished their season 15-17 overall.
The two teams met four times this year and and Dawson won each game.
Miles was led by 6-2 freshman Azenio Cossa with 25 points, six rebounds and five assists. Yohandry Ortiz, a 6-5 freshman, chipped in 22 points, three assists and five boards for MCC. Mack Page, a 6-5 sophomore from Worland, Wyoming, tallied 15 points and five boards. Donnie Haney, a 6-3 freshman, added 11 points for MCC.
DCC will next host Williston State College (North Dakota) in the Region XIII championship game at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
