Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Johana Ng’eno, who tragically died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County, has been honored posthumously with the renaming of a major affordable housing project in Nairobi. President William Ruto announced on Friday that the Shauri Moyo B Estate, comprising 4,500 houses, will now be known as ‘Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate’.

President Ruto, speaking at the late MP’s burial service in Dikirr, stated that the housing committee recommended the renaming to acknowledge Ng’eno’s pivotal role as the chairman of the affordable housing program. Ruto lauded Ng’eno for his unwavering commitment, noting that despite facing significant resistance, legal challenges, and hostility, Ng’eno breathed new life into the project, ensuring its success and contributing to changing the face of Kenya.

The Shauri Moyo Affordable Housing project, now ‘Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate’, is situated merely six kilometers from the Nairobi Central Business District. Currently, 37 percent of the project is complete, with 12 residential blocks offering a total of 4,500 units. This state-of-the-art development features elegant studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units designed to attract Kenyans from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Amenities include shops, parking slots for homeowners, a kindergarten, a club, and meticulously manicured grounds.

In his eulogy, President Ruto mourned the loss of a committed and development-oriented leader, describing Ng’eno as a steadfast confidant during challenging times for the housing initiative. The late MP’s wife, Naiyanoi Ng’eno, also delivered a poignant eulogy, describing him as a loving husband, friend, comfort, and a devoted father to their two daughters, Taparon Cheruto and Chesang Ng’eno. She assured her mother-in-law, Mary, of her continued love and support, and pledged to remain close to the residents of Emurua Dikirr.

Johana Ng’eno died on Saturday, February 28, in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, alongside Captain George Were, Wycliffe Ronoh, Robert Keter, Nicholas Koskei, and Amos Rotich. Prominent leaders present at the burial included Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, Defence CS Soipan Tuya, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, and Senator Ledama Ole Kina.
