NELSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 26-year-old motorcyclist from Sand Lake was found dead after what Kent County Sheriff's deputies say was a crash that had "gone unnoticed."
Monday, a Kent County Drain Commission employee was inspecting drains along 21 Mile Road NE, near Keller Avenue NE in Nelson Township, when they found a crashed motorcycle and its rider deep in the grass, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Office.
Both the motorcyclist and his bike could not be seen from the road, and it "appeared the crash had gone unnoticed from the day prior," deputies said.
Per an investigation, it is believed that the 26-year-old was traveling east when he hit a deer, drove off the road and crashed into a ditch, according to the sheriff's office.
The crash likely happened sometime Sunday afternoon or late evening, initial observations from the Kent County Medical Examiner's office detailed.
In addition, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and protective jacket at the time of the crash, deputies said.
This incident remains under investigation.
