The young man died on Tuesday, March 25, from injuries sustained in a road accident.
Elvis was returning from helping friends when his vehicle had a tyre burst. He braked and the vehicle rolled.
The burial was attended by political leaders, including Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Governor Johnson Sakaja, CS Kipchumba Murkomen, numerous MPs and MCAs.
Speaking during the service, Wetang’ula praised Elachi for her kind heart and recounted learning about her son’s accident.
“Elachi is respectful and has a kind heart. When I heard about the accident, I called her. I was out of Nairobi. When I arrived, I went straight to the hospital. I was happy to find her surrounded by female legislators, trying to support her.”
According to the National Assembly speaker, not even one legislator has an issue with Elachi.
“She has been there for everybody in every situation. Advising people and sacrificing her time.”
Wetang’ula recounted how supportive Elachi was when he lost his mother in December 2024.
“All these MPs came to console with my family, but Elachi and Senator Catherine Mumma stood out.
The day before the burial, I went home at 2am, and I found them sitting near my mum's casket. They remained there till morning. After the burial, they remained there for another two days. That is how we treat each other as human beings.”
Wetang’ula noted that Elachi’s social capital had paid off, adding that numerous MPs called him and sent their condolences as they could not make it.
“When I arrived in Kisumu at 6am and I found numerous MPs waiting for their flights so they could come and condole with the family. You are the profile of a true Kenyan politician we need- no tribalism and works with anyone, anywhere. We cherish you for that.
Every parent expects to be buried by their children. But God's work has no mistakes.”
