The North-South Power Foundation, operators of the Shiroro Hydroelectric Dam in Niger State, has donated food items worth several millions of naira to victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa.

The donation was formally presented on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in Minna by Hon. Hassan Abdullahi, the foundation’s consultant on corporate social responsibility. The items were received on behalf of the state government by Ahmed Baba Suleiman Yumu, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Speaking during the presentation, Abdullahi expressed condolences to the government and people of Niger State over the flood that devastated Mokwa town, resulting in loss of lives and property.

“In our own little way of doing humanitarian services, we brought few food items to support all the affected victims of the flood,” Abdullahi said.

He described the flood as “tragic and sad,” and prayed for the repose of the souls lost and the speedy recovery of injured survivors. He noted that the foundation has consistently extended similar support to vulnerable communities across the state.

Items donated include 50 bags of 25kg rice, 50 bags of 25kg beans, 50 bags of 10kg semovita, 50 cartons of spaghetti. 50 bags of salt, 50 cartons of Maggi seasoning, 50 gallons of 5kg vegetable oil, and 50 gallons of 5kg palm oil.

Commissioner Yumu, while receiving the items, commended the foundation for its timely intervention. He assured that the food would be delivered promptly to affected residents in Mokwa and distributed judiciously.

“We appreciate this kind gesture. The state government will ensure the items reach the victims without delay,” Yumu said, adding a prayer that God rewards the foundation for its continued support to disaster-stricken communities.
