Mira Kapoor Shares Ayurvedic Rituals and Self-Care Kitchen Hacks

Wellness entrepreneur and hands-on mother, Mira Kapoor, frequently draws attention for her glowing skin and fit physique, largely attributed to her unwavering belief in the power of Ayurveda. The 30-year-old shares that certain simple yet sacred Ayurvedic rituals are non-negotiable in her daily routine, even amidst a full schedule. These practices, which are deeply personal and grounding, include applying ghee to her feet before bed, starting her mornings with overnight-soaked raisins, and ending her nights with a cup of warm milk. She emphasizes that these small acts root her in herself and bring a quiet joy she deeply cherishes, fostering both physical and mental well-being.
The benefits of Mira Kapoor's chosen wellness rituals are deeply rooted in Ayurvedic principles. According to nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, applying ghee to the soles of the feet can significantly improve digestion and sleep by settling vata, reducing gas, bloating, and acidity. Soaked raisins, rich in iron, fiber, potassium, and calcium, are beneficial for digestion, red blood cell formation, blood pressure regulation, and maintaining healthy bones. Drinking warm milk at night is known to regulate sleep and mood while helping to control appetite, promoting a sense of stillness and preparing the body for rest.
Beyond her personal regimen, Mira Kapoor advocates for accessible wellness, challenging the perception of it as a luxury. She advises women, particularly young women, to 'start small, but start somewhere,' highlighting that wellness can be as simple as understanding one's body, honoring natural cycles, eating clean, or practicing mindful breathing. She stresses that investing in one's health early is an empowering act that boosts energy, confidence, and future well-being. Her interest in popularizing ancient healing techniques through modern solutions is inspired by her grandfather, a homeopath, and further solidified after motherhood, which prompted her to seek balance and sustainability over intensity.
Mira recently launched an urban retreat in Mumbai, offering a diverse range of services, including Ayurvedic healing, Cryotherapy, Japanese Lymphatic Massages, and Sonic Meditations, to make holistic wellness more attainable. Inspired by Mira's approach, several other Ayurvedic self-care rituals can be adopted for a calmer and more relaxed mind. Abhyanga, or self-massage with warm oil, using specific oils like sesame, coconut, or mustard based on one's dosha, helps to calm the nervous system and promote circulation. Sipping herbal teas infused with adaptogens like ashwagandha, brahmi, or tulsi can support a relaxed nervous system, reduce anxiety, sharpen mental focus, and boost immunity.
An Evening Dinacharya, or a calming night routine, is crucial for improving sleep and overall peace of mind. This includes practices such as drinking warm milk infused with nutmeg or turmeric, reading, journaling, avoiding screens, and gently massaging the scalp or feet with oils like bhringraj or brahmi. Pranayama, or breathwork, is central to calming an overactive mind; practices like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), Bhramari (bee breath), and Sheetali (cooling breath) can balance brain hemispheres, soothe the nervous system, and ease mental heat. Finally, warm baths or foot soaks infused with herbs like rose petals, sandalwood, lavender, or rock salt can effectively relieve stress, soothe sore muscles, and calm the mind, particularly effective for calming Vata energy which often governs racing thoughts and anxiety.
