Minor fire at Thane station halts two local services breifly

THANE:

Suburban services

operating from

platform number 1 and 2

at Thane railway station were briefly halted Monday evening after some dry waste accumulated on the weather shed above the platforms caught fire, officials informed.
The incident was reported around 4:20pm towards the CSMT end of platform 2 where it joins platform number 1 following which rescue teams from the

Thane municipal corporation

were summoned and electric supply to the overhead wires was cut off and trains on the route halted to avert any possible disaster.
Platform number 1 handles locals terminating and originating from Thane while the adjoining platform 2 receives down direction services headed towards Dombivli and Kalyan. Two suburban services were detained for around 8-9 minutes each on the route. There was no major impact on the evening peak hour services, railways said.
The blaze was doused within minutes and the train movement normalised. An investigation will be launched to know the cause of the blaze, informed a municipal official.
