Miley Cyrus Reveals Disney Song Ban, Fans Upset

Miley Cyrus, widely known for her starring role in the Disney hit series Hannah Montana, recently revealed a significant restriction placed upon her after her departure from the network. The pop sensation shared that she was initially barred from performing any songs from her Hannah Montana era, a period that defined her early career and produced numerous beloved tracks.

In Hannah Montana, Cyrus portrayed a character leading a dual life as a regular teenager, Miley Stewart, and the international pop superstar, Hannah Montana. Her on-screen alter ego achieved massive success with a string of chart-topping hits, which were frequently performed both within the show's narrative and in live concerts during her time with Disney.

The long-standing rumors about this prohibition were confirmed by Cyrus herself during a candid interview on the "Every Single Album" podcast. She explained, "After I left Disney, I wasn't allowed to perform any of the Hannah Montana music. It's not like I wanted to, I mean, performing 'The Best of Both Worlds' between 'We Can't Stop,' and 'Wrecking Ball' wouldn't have really made sense."

Despite not necessarily wanting to mix her Hannah Montana repertoire with her evolving musical style, Cyrus admitted the restriction was disheartening. "But it was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn't allowed to sing them," she continued. However, a significant change occurred later: "But after being inducted as a Disney Legend, I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool."

News of this restriction, and its eventual lifting, sparked considerable reaction among fans on platforms like Reddit. Many expressed surprise that Cyrus had been prohibited from performing her own earlier work. One user quipped, "Not The Mouse keeping Best of Both Worlds from us," alluding to Disney's control. Another fan remarked on the peculiarity, stating, "That's wild because it would mean she was the only person on the planet who couldn't (since you don't need permission to make your own covers of songs, whereas you do need a license to use someone else's recording)."

The prospect of Cyrus performing Hannah Montana songs again excited many. Enthusiasts expressed their eagerness, with comments like, "If she went on a Hannah tour I would hand my money over so fast. To this day I remember how heartbroken I was that I never got to see her in person, I loved her." Some even voiced high hopes for future performances, suggesting, "I would love to see her do a Super Bowl halftime show including Best of Both Worlds."

Other fans reflected on the journey Cyrus has been on, with one sharing, "I can't imagine what it feels like to come full circle and sing these songs while holding all of the power. She deserves this." Conversely, some comments highlighted the corporate aspect, noting, "Disney's control over its talent is wild. She deserved more creative freedom." The general sentiment was one of surprise at the initial ban and anticipation for potential future performances of the iconic tracks, with one user exclaiming, "This is crazy! I didn't know she wasn't allowed. I ADORE Hannah Montana's music so I hope we get to hear her perform them live in the future!!"
