Sonko’s bond with Osinya and his younger brother, Satrine Osinya, began in the aftermath of a harrowing tragedy.

The two brothers were orphaned when their mother was killed during a terrorist attack at the Joy Jesus Repentance Church in Likoni, Mombasa County, in 2014.

A photo of Osinya carrying his younger brother, who had a bullet lodged in his head, moved Sonko deeply and inspired him to take the boys into his family.

“Today, we celebrate our son, Gift Osinya, as he turns 24,” Sonko wrote on his social media pages.

He reflected on Osinya’s courage and love during that fateful day when terrorists opened fire randomly on worshippers.

“Watching him grow into a strong, kind, and graceful young man has been a true blessing to my family,” Sonko added.

Osinya was in class six, and Satrine was just two years old at the time.

Since then, the brothers have seamlessly blended into Sonko’s family.

Osinya's educational journey has been a source of pride for the former governor, who took him to Bethlehem Academy in Ruiru, where he completed his KCPE exams and thereafter enrolled him at Lenana School in Nairobi.

The 24-year-old is now on course to graduate in September with a bachelor’s degree in IT from Scots University and is set to pursue a master’s degree at Brighton University in London, UK.

Meanwhile, his younger brother Satrine is in Grade 7 at St. Mary’s School, the alma mater of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We remain committed to supporting him in every way. We thank God and glorify His holy name for this long but successful journey. The devil has truly been put to shame. Happy birthday, son,” Sonko shared while showing his pride in him.

Sonko’s wife, Primrose Mbuvi, also joined in the celebration with a heartfelt birthday message:

“Happy birthday to my wonderful son! Watching you grow has been the greatest joy of my life.”

In other news, Baby James, whom Sonko adopted after his father was killed by alleged thugs while taking him to school, has returned to school.

On Thursday, May 8, Sonko revealed that James had enrolled in a new school but admitted the process was challenging due to James being traumatised by his father’s death and initially reluctant to go back to class.

Sonko posted several photos of James dressed in his school uniform, with the school logo deliberately concealed to protect his privacy and safety.

James looked smart in a red sweater, grey shorts, red socks, and black shoes.
