Migori Helicopter Incident: Man Sentenced

Stephen Odhiambo Obise, now known as Migori ‘James Bond', has been sentenced to 18 months in prison or a fine of Sh500,000. This sentence was handed down after Obise pleaded guilty to endangering the safety and security of an aircraft during musician Prince Indah’s traditional wedding on April 13, 2025. The incident occurred at Rapogi village in North Kanyamkago location, Uriri Sub-County, Migori County, where Obise was seen hanging onto the skid of a helicopter (registration number 57-PKZ) as it was taking off.

The pilot, a witness in the case, had to drop Obise off at a nearby farm to ensure his safety after the helicopter took off. Subsequently, Obise went into hiding before being apprehended by police at midnight.
Odhiambo was initially presented to court under a miscellaneous application, allowing police to detain him for seven days during the investigation. On April 23, he pleaded guilty and was initially placed on probation. Other witnesses included Stephen Johnson, police officers Victor Nyandiemo and Teddy Obegi, among others. In court, Odhiambo expressed remorse, stating that he is a family man with two children who depend on him.
