Mexican President Rejects Trump's Offer of US Troops

Mexico's President, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that she declined an offer from Donald Trump to deploy U.S. troops to Mexico to aid in combating drug trafficking. Sheinbaum disclosed this information during a public event on Saturday.

According to Sheinbaum, Trump inquired during a phone conversation about how he could assist in the fight against organized crime, suggesting the deployment of U.S. troops. The Mexican president stated that she rejected the offer, emphasizing, "we will never accept the presence of the United States army in our territory."

Sheinbaum further elaborated, "I told him, ‘No, President Trump, our territory is inviolable, our sovereignty is inviolable, our sovereignty is not for sale.’"

Since taking office in January, Trump has consistently criticized Mexico and Canada regarding drug trafficking. The U.S. president has accused both countries of enabling the flow of illegal drugs, particularly fentanyl, across their borders into the United States.
