Mercedes-AMG GT XX Electrifies the Track, Crushing EV Records with Wild Concept

Mercedes-AMG has made a resounding statement in the high-performance electric vehicle (EV) market with its GT XX concept, a prototype of a forthcoming electric four-door super sedan. This vehicle recently completed a grueling endurance test at the Nardo Ring in southern Italy, covering an astounding 24,901 miles—the equivalent of a lap around the Earth’s equator—in just 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes, and 7.1 seconds. This incredible feat was achieved while maintaining an average speed of over 137 mph, including necessary stops for recharging and tire changes. The GT XX concept, with its vivid orange, low-slung design, did not just break one record; it shattered 25 electric vehicle speed and distance records over 3,177 laps of the 7.8-mile track.

Among its most impressive achievements, the Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept, which boasts a 1,340 horsepower tri-motor powertrain identical to that of its future production version and AMG’s upcoming high-performance electric SUV, surpassed the existing 24-hour electric vehicle distance record of 2,461 miles by a significant margin. It covered 3,404 miles at an average speed of over 142 mph in a single day. Further demonstrating its endurance, the car completed 5,000 miles in just over 35 hours, 10,000 miles in under three days, and 20,000 miles in just six days and 23 minutes, consistently running at 186 mph on the track. To validate this performance, a second AMG GT XX prototype finished a mere 15.5 miles behind the record-breaking car after the weeklong marathon.

The primary objective of the Nardo event was to emphatically prove that AMG's new AMG.EA electric vehicle architecture is capable of delivering sustained, scintillating performance, not merely short bursts of acceleration. Mercedes-AMG boss Michael Schiebe affirmed this, stating, “AMG always does its talking on the track. We wanted to showcase what this technology is capable of.” He further highlighted that unlike many other performance EVs, the AMG GT XX is a
