Meghan Markle's Bold New Chapter: Royal Figure Embarks on Fresh Endeavor

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and former actress, is reportedly embarking on yet another significant 'reinvention' within the business sphere. After stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, two years after marrying Prince Harry in 2018, the couple established a more private life with their family in Los Angeles. This shift led to various ventures, including multi-million-pound documentaries and a brief podcast series for Spotify.
A notable part of their post-royal career is a multi-year, first-look agreement with Netflix for film and television projects. This partnership has already produced the documentary series 'Harry and Meghan' in 2022 and the lifestyle program 'With Love, Meghan,' which has aired for two seasons and awaits confirmation for a third. Netflix's involvement extends beyond media production, encompassing Meghan's lifestyle enterprise, As Ever.
As Ever was launched earlier this year with the distribution of preserve samples to famous friends, but reports suggested the venture initially seemed to falter, with Meghan reportedly feeling 'adrift.' However, a PR expert has commented on this latest phase, describing it as 'Meghan 3.0,' indicating a strategic relaunch. This perception is reinforced by Meghan's scheduled appearance as a 'high-profile business founder' at Fortune's Most Powerful Women summit in Washington D.C., where she will join figures like Kamala Harris and Selena Gomez.
Since its launch in April, As Ever has expanded its product offerings, including wine, with some ranges reportedly selling out swiftly, though no official sales figures have been released. Concerns about the brand's trajectory were highlighted by a friend close to the Duchess, who revealed to the Daily Mail that the 'jam-making business did not work out in the way she thought it would,' and that Netflix owns the business, taking a substantial share of any profits.
Meghan confirmed Netflix as her sole partner and backer in As Ever during a Bloomberg chat, expressing her desire for the brand not to feel 'generic, cookie-cutter, or phoned in.' Despite her aspirations and discussions of being a 'female founder,' reports suggest she is 'entirely inexperienced in commerce,' with one friend remarking that she 'just wants to make money, she wants to be a billionaire. The trouble is, she doesn't know how.'
The Duchess recently made a subtle announcement on As Ever's Instagram page, introducing a new product: a 2024 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. The cryptic post, captioned 'We heard you missed us. We're back...and we brought a friend,' was followed by a sneak peek of the new tipple. However, the wine's debut largely went unnoticed as Meghan jetted off to France for a surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week.
The Instagram post initially showcased a gift box of her established apricot spread and orange marmalade before revealing an image of the new white wine. The official As Ever website provides details of the Sauvignon Blanc, describing it as 'bright and balanced, with citrus aromatics, a smooth finish, and refreshing versatility,' crafted for both everyday dinners and celebratory gatherings. Priced at $30 (£22) per bottle, it is sold in sets of three ($90), half cases ($159), and full cases ($300), aligning in price with the brand's 2024 Napa Valley Rosé and the previously sold-out 2023 Napa Valley Rosé, marking it as the third varietal of wine available from the Duchess's brand.
