Mavs win the 2025 Draft Lottery, could they trade Cooper Flagg for Giannis? - Yahoo Sports

The Dallas Mavericks have won the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery despite having only a 1.8% chance to do so heading into the evening. With Duke Blue Devils star Cooper Flagg the presumed first overall pick, could the Dallas Mavericks potentially trade Flagg or the first overall pick to Milwaukee for Giannis Antetokounmpo? Kevin O'Connor explains why the deal might make sense for an embattled Dallas franchise and GM Nico Harrison, who has been on the defensive ever since the Luka Doncic trade in early February.

I can't believe this actually happened, that we're gonna get Cooper flag to the freaking Dallas Mavericks, or they're gonna end up trading him, but look, man, that that's the big question.

That's the number one question to me.

Are the Mavericks gonna be one of those teams that trades Cooper flag for Giannis under the Copo?

I don't think they have enough assets necessarily, in part because they didn't get enough back for Luca.

That's the great irony here, but the number one thing is a hell of an asset, man.

It is one hell of an asset for the Dallas Mavericks to float out there as a potential trade piece.

To go get Giannis, but ultimately, if they keep Cooper, if the Mavericks keep Cooper flag, he's somebody that can fit right in next to Anthony Davis, once Kyrie Irving comes back, maybe he's able to help win over some fans.

I think he's in a great situation there from a basketball standpoint, from a front office standpoint, I'm not totally certain, but I, I, I, in some ways though, here's the other side of it.

I kind of feel bad for Cooper Flag, because you're going to this fan base that just got its heart ripped out.

3 months ago, and a lot of them have left the team.

They don't ever want to go back to the team.

They don't trust Niko Harrison, they don't trust ownership, Patrick Dumont, and now you're going there to that team.

Uh, you know, I, I think that's a tough tough situation for Cooper Flag to have to deal with, man, um.

You know, and hopefully he's he's able to do it, but uh uh I, I feel bad for Cooper.

I think there are better basketball fits for him, and look, like we were talking before the lottery was determined.

Nobody thought to even say Dallas is the team, he would try to force his way out of, um, but I'll tell you what, man, uh, if I were him, I'd think about it, depending on the direction of that franchise, because I think with a Two injury prone stars, this might be a team that's actually going nowhere, um, but this gives Dallas a chance to go somewhere, but boy, it does feel fixed.
