Mavin Records in Turmoil: Crayon Slams Don Jazzy, Tega Eyes Exit Amid Label Crisis

The Nigerian music industry experienced significant turbulence following popular singer Charles Chibueze Chukwu, known as Crayon, publicly criticizing the leadership of his record label, Mavin Records, on Sunday evening. The 28-year-old artist, celebrated for his hit song 'Ngozi', took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to direct harsh comments at Mavin Records' founder, Michael Collins Ajereh, famously known as Don Jazzy, as well as the company's Chief Operating Officer, Tega Oghenejobo.

In a series of posts, Crayon appeared to question various decisions made within the label, implying internal tensions. One notable post read, "Don Jazzy na my boy!!!!!! Una dey maddddd!!??" The singer further intensified his criticism by referring to Tega Oghenejobo as a "highest criminal" and issued a stark warning about the label's future, declaring, "Mavin is going down!!!!!!"

Adding another layer to the controversy, Crayon also expressed profound frustration with his label mate and globally recognized music star, Rema. He alleged that Rema had "stolen his star" and explicitly stated that there would be no future collaborations between them. His post on this matter read, "Rema for the next 100 years, no feature. You stole my star from me."

Amidst this social media outburst, Crayon also dropped strong hints suggesting a potential separation from the Don Jazzy-led record label. He shared contact details for a new entity, Olodum Entertainment, including a fresh booking email address. Additionally, industry observers noted that Crayon's most recent single, 'Baami', was released under the Olodum Entertainment imprint, conspicuously lacking the usual Mavin Records branding that accompanied his previous projects.

As these posts rapidly circulated online, many fans speculated that the singer's social media account might have been compromised. However, Crayon remained actively posting on his platforms without issuing any clarification or retraction of his statements. As of the time of reporting, Mavin Records and the executives mentioned in Crayon's posts have not released any official statement regarding these significant developments.

Crayon initially joined Mavin Records in 2019 under its Blowtime Entertainment imprint. He quickly rose to prominence through several successful releases, including his notable contribution to the Mavin all-star track 'Overdose'. This latest series of events has undeniably raised serious questions about the ongoing relationship between Crayon and Mavin Records, as well as his future in the Nigerian music scene.
