Mark Hamill Revives '90s Classic: Darkwing Duck Takes Flight on Disney+

Mark Hamill, widely recognized for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, has built an impressive and prolific career as a voice actor in the animation industry. His extensive repertoire includes iconic roles such as the Joker in 1992's Batman: The Animated Series, a character he has frequently reprised. Hamill has also lent his voice to numerous other animated series, often taking on villainous or supernatural characters, including the Hobgoblin on Spider-Man, Fire Lord Ozai on Avatar: The Last Airbender, Skips on Regular Show, and the Hanukkah Zombie on Futurama. More recently, he voiced the villainous Flying Dutchman in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.

Hamill is now set to return to the world of beloved '90s animation, starring in a new animated reboot of Disney's classic crime-fighting fowl, Darkwing Duck, ordered to series on Disney+. The project, which has been in development for several years, has finally received the green light from the streamer and will be produced by Seth Rogen and his Point Grey Productions. The original series, created by Tad Stones, debuted in 1991 and ran for three seasons and 91 episodes until 1992. It followed the adventures of Drake Mallard, an ordinary citizen of St. Canard by day, who secretly operates as the masked vigilante Darkwing Duck by night. Lacking superpowers, Darkwing Duck relies on his intellect, high-tech gadgets and vehicles, his trusty sidekick Launchpad McQuack, and his youthful ward, Gosalyn, to battle crime.

The new Darkwing Duck reboot will serve as a direct sequel to the original series, intentionally bypassing the plotline established in the 2017 DuckTales reboot, where Darkwing was depicted as a fictional character. In this new narrative, Drake Mallard, voiced by Mark Hamill, has been trapped for 35 years in an alternate reality where his superhero exploits were never known. He is eventually pulled back into heroics by Duckie, a rebellious teenager voiced by Lilimar. This unlikely duo will reunite with familiar allies Launchpad McQuack (voiced by Seth Rogen), Gosalyn Mallard (voiced by Lizzy Caplan), and his mystical lady love, Morgana, while confronting classic adversaries such as Negaduck and Megavolt.

The star-studded voice cast for the reboot includes Mark Hamill as Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck, Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar as Duckie.
