Mariska Hargitay nodded to her mom Jayne Mansfield on Monday for her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star stepped out in New York wearing a black pantsuit with metallic embellishments, which resembled one of Mansfield's vintage looks.
The late actress, who Hargitay profiles in her feature directorial debut My Mom Jayne, attended the 1958 Cannes Film Festival in a plunging rhinestoned shift. In her documentary, Hargitay reveals that although she shares a surname with Mansfield's second husband, bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, she's actually the biological daughter of singer Nelson Sardelli.

"I pulled out this picture," Mariska says in the film's trailer. "I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was like the floor fell out from underneath me. Why didn't he tell me?"
Mansfield had five other children, including Mariska's sister Jayne Marie, who is interviewed in the documentary.
In the trailer, Mariska explains that she's spent years "distancing" herself from her mother. "Her career made me want to do it differently," she says, alluding to Mansfield's legacy as a sex symbol. "But I want to understand her now."

"Reclaiming my family story—that is what this is about for me, because she's a part of me," Mariska continues. "I want to know her as Jayne, my mom Jayne."
Last month, Mariska made the premiere of her documentary a family affair. The actress, her husband Peter Hermann, and their three children made a rare public appearance, walking the red carpet together during the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Hargitay modeled an off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera gown, which featured a skirt embroidered with hot pink sequins. Black satin opera gloves, diamond-encrusted earrings, and matching cocktail rings completed her look.
