A man died in a two-vehicle crash in Deer Park early Monday, and a Suffolk police officer was injured while responding to the scene, police said.

The officer involved in the crash, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was responding to the scene of the two-vehicle crash that occurred on Deer Park Avenue near Grand Boulevard at about 3:40 a.m., and resulted in the death of Anthony Guglielmo, 56, of Deer Park, police said.

Police said Guglielmo was driving his 2013 Mini Cooper northbound on Deer Park Avenue when his car collided with a 2011 Jeep Liberty headed westbound on Grand Boulevard. Guglielmo was pronounced dead from his injuries at the hospital. The driver of the Jeep was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer in the marked patrol car, identified only as a male, collided with a van that was headed eastbound on Lake Avenue at about 3:51 a.m., police said. The officer and the driver of the van, also identified only as a male, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The two incidents forced the closure of Deer Park Avenue for hours between Grand and Lake. The road has since been reopened.
