A middle-aged man (name withheld) has been handed over to the police for assaulting an environmental officer, who is a member of the task force for the monthly environmental sanitation in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The environmental officer, whose identity was not disclosed, was out last Saturday in company of other members of the taskforce for the enforcement of the state’s monthly sanitation exercise when the suspect attacked him in Irewolede area of Ilorin.
Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, disclosed this at the post-sanitation briefing to access the exercise and prepare for the coming one.
It was learnt that the suspect used a hammer on the armless government official upon being accosted for violating the state environmental law.
Our correspondent gathered that an argument ensued between them thereafter, prompting the suspect to pick up a hammer to attack the environmental officer.
