Maguire Snubs Saudi Riches, Poised for Major Man Utd Role & New Deal

Harry Maguire, the 32-year-old defender, is reportedly set to reject a lucrative £500,000-a-week offer from Saudi Arabian clubs to sign a new deal with Manchester United. Currently slated to become a free agent at the end of the season, Maguire has attracted significant interest from Middle Eastern teams, including Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq. However, reports indicate his strong preference to commit his future to Old Trafford, provided an extension is offered.

Maguire's decision is influenced by several factors, including his improved standing within the Manchester United squad under new manager Ruben Amorim. Amorim holds Maguire in high regard, having appointed him to his five-man leadership team this season and even named him captain for a Carabao Cup match. This marks a significant turnaround for the England international, who had struggled for game time under former boss Erik ten Hag and was stripped of the captain's armband in July 2023. Under Amorim, Maguire has enjoyed an upturn in form, becoming a consistent performer and a fan-favourite, featuring in 38 of Amorim's 50 games.

Beyond his club loyalty, Maguire is also reportedly considering his international career. He believes that a move to a Saudi club could jeopardize his chances of playing for England under manager Thomas Tuchel. While acknowledging that his next contract might be the last major deal of his career, securing the right terms and maintaining his Premier League presence appear to be high priorities.

Discussions regarding a new contract have already commenced, with Maguire holding initial talks with Manchester United's director of football negotiations, Matt Hargreaves. More conversations are expected in the coming weeks. United are reportedly considering prolonging his stay, a move they also explored last summer. Maguire himself expressed openness to an extension earlier this summer, stating he would be "silly" to leave such an amazing club at this point.

Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 for £80 million, a fee that remains a record for a defender. He has since made 253 appearances for the Red Devils and was recently honored with a commemorative frame for his 250th game by director of football Jason Wilcox. His enduring commitment to the club, despite past challenges and external financial temptations, underscores his dedication to Manchester United.
