The Form Two student at County Mixed Day Secondary School tragically lost her life in an accident at Kavingaci River.
The incident, which occurred earlier this month, involved a vehicle owned by the former Embu deputy governor.
Tigai Twarie reports that Mwende, described by peers as bright and full of life, was fatally injured during the tragic event.
She will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 15, with preparations already underway in her home village.
Her grieving parents, family, and members of the local community are calling on government authorities and political leaders to ensure that justice is served, even after her burial.
Speakers at the vigil urged for transparency in investigations and accountability for those involved.
Tearful classmates held up placards with messages of love and farewell echoing through the school grounds.
“Rest in peace, Mwende,” said one of her teachers. “We will not let your light be forgotten.”
Serah Wangari:
"Rest in peace. May God give her parents, fellow students, teachers and friends peace during this difficult time. Our prayers are with you."

"My heartfelt condolences to the family and the County Secondary School fraternity. It is hard to believe we have lost such a soul. Poleni sana."
Florence Kiarie
"It is so sad that we are losing so many young people. May Jehovah intervene."
The accident that killed Mwende occurred on the evening of Sunday, July 6, in Embu County and claimed a boda boda rider's life, his pillion, and left others injured.
The accident involved a black SUV owned by a former deputy governor, who is the current NSSF chair, David Kariuki.
A video captured the chilling moment the speeding vehicle veered off the road to avoid hitting a stalled car before running over a motorbike and plunging into the river.
In the wake of the accident, false reports emerged online claiming that the vehicle involved was part of President William Ruto's motorcade.
