The Liberal Progressive and Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC), formerly known as the Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress, has thrown its weight behind a growing political coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released by Luka Ikechukwu of Pointsman Projects Media, a good governance advocacy group, the LPPMC affirmed its commitment to mobilizing support nationwide for the emerging coalition of “well-meaning and public-spirited Nigerians” determined to rescue Nigeria from what it described as poor governance under the APC.
According to the group, the LPPMC played a vital role in energizing the nationwide support base for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in the 2023 elections and now seeks to leverage its expansive grassroots network for broader national impact.
“Our Congress is ready, willing, able, and committed to deploy its structures across all six geopolitical zones, the 36 states, the FCT, and the 774 local government areas in support of the coalition and in pursuit of responsible and responsive governance,” the statement read.
LPPMC emphasized that it would bring both its “monstrous followership” and material resources to bear in defending democracy and ensuring that leadership becomes more accountable to the people.
The group stressed that its backing of the coalition would be strictly based on ideology and principles, noting that any partnership it engages in must be “people-centered and policy-driven.”
“This must be different from the current order where leaders have failed in accountability. We shall mobilize our structures to support the genuine effort of progressives to rescue the nation,” the statement said.
Dr. Kingsley Okundaye, National Coordinator of the Congress, added that the movement remains committed to building a new republic driven by people-oriented leadership and democratic accountability.
“Our dear nation, and all those in leadership—whether in government or the opposition—must embrace the progressive and patriotic ideals that define LPPMC as a credible vehicle for national rebirth,” Okundaye said.
He further reaffirmed LPPMC’s mission to work with like-minded forces to create a new dawn for Nigeria in 2027, expressing hope for the growth and deepening of democracy.
As preparations intensify for 2027, the LPPMC’s endorsement is seen as a significant boost for the anti-APC coalition, which is expected to attract a broad spectrum of political actors seeking reform and change.
