Love From Above NPO Empowers Children Through Personal Care Initiatives

In the South Hills community, children recently participated in a special hygiene awareness day organized by Love From Above. The event focused on educating children about the importance of self-care, covering topics from nail care and oral hygiene to discussions about puberty. Held before the start of the second school term, the initiative aimed to equip children with the knowledge and resources to maintain good hygiene, fostering confidence and self-respect.

Termayne Sivpersad, the managing director of Love From Above, emphasized that hygiene is more than just cleanliness; it's about instilling confidence and promoting personal well-being. The day began with a comprehensive group discussion on basic hygiene practices, including proper handwashing techniques and the importance of regular showering or bathing.

Following the initial discussion, the children were divided into smaller groups for age-appropriate sessions addressing more sensitive topics like puberty and self-care. The boys also received fresh haircuts, which significantly boosted their confidence. In addition to the educational talks and grooming services, the children were provided with a nutritious lunch and goodie bags containing essential hygiene products such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and nail clippers.

Sivpersad explained that many of the children who attend Love From Above events lack the means to purchase these necessary hygiene products or the knowledge to properly care for themselves. She highlighted the risk of bullying for students who lack proper hygiene, emphasizing the organization's commitment to supporting these children.

Love From Above has been active in the South Hills area for the past four years, working closely with community leaders to identify children in need. The organization hopes to make the hygiene day a regular event each school term, contingent on available funding. Sivpersad stressed that these are lifelong skills, and equipping children with this knowledge will help them grow into strong, confident individuals. She also expressed gratitude to the sponsors and volunteers whose dedication and support made the day possible.

Love From Above continues to positively impact the lives of children in the South Hills community, one child at a time.
