Lotto Luck or Loss? Africa's Millions Hung on Jan 9th Lottery Results

Yesterday marked the draw for both the Daily Lotto and Daily Lotto Plus, alongside the PowerBall and PowerBall Plus, offering participants a chance at significant jackpots. The Daily Lotto jackpot is estimated at R550,000, with prize money guaranteed to be given away even if no one matches all five numbers. The new Daily Lotto Plus jackpot stands at R200,000. For the PowerBall, a guaranteed R145 million jackpot is up for grabs, while the PowerBall Plus jackpot is estimated at R24 million.
For Friday, 9 January 2026, the winning numbers for the Daily Lotto were 02, 12, 26, 27, 31. The Daily Lotto Plus numbers for the same date were 02, 23, 25, 26, 27. The PowerBall numbers drawn on Friday, 9 January 2026, were 11, 20, 35, 42, 50, with the PowerBall number being 07. For PowerBall Plus, the numbers were 13, 14, 27, 38, 42, and the PowerBall number was 12.
The Daily Lotto draws occur every day of the week, from Monday to Sunday, around 21:30 SA time. PowerBall and PowerBall Plus draws take place every Tuesday and Friday on e.tv (channel 194) at 21:00 SA time. To play PowerBall, participants must pick five main numbers from 1 to 50 and one PowerBall number from 1 to 20, at an entry fee of R5.00 per board. PowerBall Plus offers a second chance to win; by paying an extra R2.50 per board when buying a PowerBall ticket, players can enter this draw. PowerBall Plus was introduced on 28 November 2015. Notably, the record prize for any lottery game in South Africa was a staggering R232,131,750.69 won in a PowerBall draw on 19 February 2019.
Tickets for all lotteries can be purchased at any nearest participating retailer, online at national-lottery.co.za via computer or mobile, through the National Lottery Mobile App, or using participating banks including FNB, ABSA, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Capitec, TymeBank, and African Bank. Alternatively, players can dial *120*7529# for USSD purchases. Lottery ticket sales from outlets close at 20:30 on the day of a draw. All players must be 18 years old or older to be eligible to participate.
Winners who secure R50,000 or more in winnings receive complimentary trauma counselling from professional psychologists and financial advice from accredited financial advisors. All winnings are paid tax-free directly into the winner’s accounts. Past results and payouts for Daily Lotto and PowerBall draws are available for review for those who may have missed previous draws.
