Lloyd Green honored with Mississippi Country Music Trail marker
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Country music icon Lloyd Green was honored today with a Mississippi Country Music Trail marker on University of Southern Mississippi’s campus.
The pedal steel guitarist became one of the most recorded musicians in country music history, playing on songs such as Alan Jackson’s ‘Remember When’ or The Oak Ridge Boys’ ‘Elvira.’
“Just to be honored like this is very unusual for me, in this kind of scenario, in this forum,” said Green. “So, I’m still processing all of this in my brain. But it’s a wonderful feeling.”
Green’s recognition was included among many new trail markers being unveiled in Hattiesburg during the state’s year-long celebration as “The Birthplace of America’s Music.”
“Lloyd Green is a country music legend, and he spent some time with us here at Southern Miss in the mid 50′s and now his legacy will forever be here,” USM President Dr. Joe Paul said.
The Mississippi Country Music Trail recognizes the venues, musicians and cultural landmarks that have shaped the state’s influence on country music.
