Lizzo Victorious: Judge Dismisses Harassment Lawsuit, Artist Declares 'Truth Has Prevailed'

The pop superstar expressed relief over the dismissal of "ridiculous claims," though the opposing counsel disagreed with the court's assessment. This win comes as Lizzo continues to fight another lawsuit from former backup dancers.
Pop superstar Lizzo has publicly expressed her relief following the dismissal of one of the prominent lawsuits against her and her touring company, Big Grrrl Touring, by a federal judge on Tuesday, September 1st. The Grammy winner took to Instagram shortly after the ruling, sharing a video where she appeared thoughtful and posted text overlaying the clip to announce her victory.
In her statement, Lizzo declared, “Today I am relieved to announce that I have won the case against me and my touring company Big Grrrl Touring.” She further elaborated, stating, “All the ridiculous claims by a wardrobe assistant who worked on tour for less than 3 weeks (including a claim they broke an acrylic nail) have been dismissed.” The artist highlighted her shock at being sued by someone she had reportedly never met, attributing the truth's prevalence to her legal team. “I prayed for the truth to come out and thanks to my incredible lawyers, the truth has prevailed,” she added. Emphasizing her commitment to justice, Lizzo reiterated, “The truth matters more to me than anything, and I told y’all I will continue to fight every vicious claim that has been made against me and my businesses.”
The dismissed case was brought by Asha Daniels in 2023, who had alleged sexual harassment, as well as racial, gender, and disability discrimination. Lizzo, the founder of Yitty, had consistently and vehemently denied these accusations. Notably, Lizzo herself was dismissed from the case in 2024, and the recent ruling extends this dismissal to Big Grrrl Touring, effectively taking the company "off the hook."
Despite the ruling, Ron Zambrano, lead counsel for Daniels, expressed disagreement with the court's approach. In a statement shared with Billboard, Zambrano commented, “In our view, the ruling appears to minimize evidence of a sexually charged work environment by assessing incidents too narrowly … rather than considering their cumulative impact.” He indicated that his team respectfully disagreed and was "considering appropriate next steps."
This legal victory comes as Lizzo continues to contend with another separate lawsuit. She is still actively fighting a sexual harassment and toxic workplace lawsuit filed by three former backup dancers. Lizzo’s attorneys have vehemently denied these claims, characterizing them as a “fabricated sob story” initiated by "opportunists" seeking "a quick payday."
