Liverpool Star Diogo Jota Dies In Fiery Car Crash In Spain Alongside Brother
Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a tragic car accident in Spain, less than two weeks after his wedding. His brother, Andre Felipe, also died in the crash, according to a statement released by the Spanish Guardia Civil on Wednesday morning.
The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of the morning around 00:30 BST in the municipality of Cernadilla, located in the province of Zamora. The brothers were travelling in a Lamborghini when the vehicle suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking another car. The car veered off the road and burst into flames, killing both men instantly.
Speaking to the press, a spokesperson for the Guardia Civil confirmed, “The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blow out while overtaking. It was in the early hours, 00:30 BST, in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora. The car caught on fire and the two occupants were killed.”
The spokesperson later confirmed the identities of the victims: “The player and his brother, Andre Felipe.”
Jota, 28, had recently married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso, on 22 June. The couple shared the news on social media with the caption: “Yes, forever.”
A key figure in Liverpool’s Premier League-winning side last season, the Portuguese international was widely admired for his sharp finishing and tireless work ethic.
Tributes have begun pouring in from the football community and beyond, with fans and teammates expressing shock and grief over the sudden loss of one of the sport’s most talented forwards. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
